Konnichiwa CAS members!
CAS is doing a special screening of an amazing Japanese animated film this week: “Tekkon Kinkreet tells the story of two orphan brothers (the tough, canny Kuro and the childish, snot-nosed Shiro) who live in the streets of Treasure City. Together they are known as Neko and they live homeless, living out of a car in the junkyard when not visiting Gramps, an older homeless man, these children also serve as the city's superhero guardians, although older brother Black must also give a great deal of personal attention to White, who even for a ten-year-old can sometimes seem very disconnected from reality. They're going to have to be on the top of their games, because a pair of Yakuza - Rat and Kimura - are returning to Treasure Town, but to a certain extent their only front men for a group of developers looking to build a family amusement center - and they've hired the monstrous looking Snake and his inhumanly powerful goons to make sure it gets done.” (www.IMDB.com).
So come by Montgomery Room 311 this Thursday at 8:30 PM; it’s a fantastic feature that you don’t want to miss.
Get ideas rolling for T-shirt and Sidewalk Arts designs!
Next week, we will be looking at/selecting a design for CAS T-shirts.
If you haven’t signed up for the zoo trip, you better make a dash to our meeting this week! We have limited seats on the bus AND LESS THAN HALF THE OPEN SPOTS ARE LEFT!
April 19, next Saturday, is CAS’s annual trip to the Jacksonville Zoo. For those of you who love animals or would love the chance to brush up on your animal drawings and gestures, you don’t want to miss this great opportunity.
Be sure to set those alarm clocks early, because we will be meeting at Weston House at 6:30 AM (we head out at 7 AM, NO EXCEPTIONS). We will spend the day at the zoo and head back to SCAD at 5 PM (~7PM return).
Cost for the trip is $12, yes, there was a price reduction. Very sweet. Payments will be taken on the day of the trip, but to ensure that you have a spot on the bus BE SURE TO COME TO A CAS MEETING AND SIGN UP.
Those coming on the zoo trip are encouraged to bring sketchbooks, cameras, and money (besides trip fee) for lunch (and souvenirs).
The following week, April 26th, is the 2008 Sidewalk Arts Festival, and CAS is preparing for our annual 3-square chalk mural! If you would like to participate, there will be a sign up at our upcoming CAS meetings.
But even more exciting, you can have YOUR idea featured this year! We’re looking for your designs to select our mural this year. Keep in mind that as the Contemporary Animation Society, we look for designs that have a cartoon appeal or relate to animation. As well, there is a prize available for winning designs of a marine nature, but there is no requirement to have your design fit a marine nature for CAS’s mural.
Get ready for some anime flair this week,
I’ll see you Thursday,
Elaine Nybeck,
CAS Secretary
P.S.: Note to members, Art Educators is canceled this week due to school holiday
