Hello CAS members!
CAS E-MAIL AND WEBSITE ARE BACK!
Okay… you caught me, April Fools…
Okay, so the SCAD e-mail system is down… what better way to promote our new forums than to turn to them in our time of need?
So for you faithful few, who follow our forums, spread the word! Your weekly CAS updates that you miss from your mailbox can now be found here!
So let’s get on with the show:
This week, we have our first Frames of Influence for the Spring 2008 quarter with a special Blender Workshop with our fantastic president, Colin, and fellow CAS member, Nate. They will be going over the basic ins and outs of working with this great (free) 3D program.
There is also talk of a potential modeling contest, so come to our meeting this Thursday in Montgomery room 311 at 8:30 PM to find out more if you are interested.
After the meeting this week, members who would like to go see a late-night screening of Horton Hears a Who are in luck! After the meeting this week, CAS members are heading out to the movies to see the latest Blue Sky Studios Animated Feature. So bring some cash for the movies and join us!
Our last reminder for this week's activities is the return of our Arts Educators Program. The students and teachers are eagerly awaiting the return of our program. So if you would like to teach the joys of animation to some very appreciative children, now is your chance!
Meet in the lobby of Montgomery Hall (front doors) at 2 PM on Friday.
It is a great opportunity to spread the joys of the craft!
Also, open up those agendas and take out your pencil because CAS has some popular and exciting events coming up:
April 19 is CAS’s annual trip to the Jacksonville Zoo.
For those of you who love animals or would love the chance to brush up on your animal drawings and gestures, you don’t want to miss this great opportunity.
Be sure to set those alarms, because we will be meeting at Weston House at 6:30 AM (we head out at 7 AM, NO EXCEPTIONS). We will spend the day at the zoo and head back to SCAD at 5 PM (~7PM return).
Cost for the trip is $15, which includes gas as well as your ticket. Payments will be taken on the day of the trip, but to ensure that you have a spot on the bus BE SURE TO COME TO A CAS MEETING AND SIGN UP. We begin sign ups for the zoo trip this week, so reserve your spot ASAP because we do have a limited amount of seats.
Those coming on the zoo trip are encouraged to bring sketchbooks, cameras, and money (besides trip fee) for lunch (and souvenirs).
The following week is the 2008 Sidewalk Arts Festival, and CAS is preparing for our annual 3-square chalk mural! If you would like to participate, there will be a sign up at our upcoming CAS meetings.
But even more exciting, you can have your idea featured this year! We’re looking for your designs to select our mural this year. Keep in mind that as the Contemporary Animation Society, we look for designs that have a cartoon appeal or relate to animation. As well, there is a prize available for winning designs of a marine nature, but there is no requirement to have your design fit a marine nature for CAS’s mural.
That’s all the updates for the moment! But don’t be fooled, CAS has more great events coming up, so stay tuned to the CAS forums for your weekly dose of animation fun!
See you at the movies,
Elaine Nybeck,
CAS Secretary
